Representation and visibility are more important than ever as we try to overcome the challenges of a society divided across so many lines.
The Outfest Legacy Awards celebrates the filmmakers and storytellers who amplify the voices and the lives of the LGBTQ+ community. Celebrating it’s 40th year, the Awards included: the Guardian Award to Glamazon, a division of Amazon, the Visionary Award to Star Trek, The Jonathan Howard Service Award to Kerri Stoughton-Jackson, and the Trailblazer Award to the incomparable Janelle Monae. Generously sponsored by Hyundai Genesis and IMDB, The gala raised funds for Outfest’s ongoing mission of supporting the next generation of LGBTQ+ filmmakers and raised the bar for events that shine a beautiful light on the queer community and provide a joyful, loving space to celebrate their stories.
“…they have allowed us to tell our own stories, to….be in our own stories, to create our own stories… that’s how we have been able to move the needle in terms of acceptance for the last 40 years. We have been able to tell people who we actually are, through the stories that we tell.” — Wilson Cruz, Star Trek.
